“You Can’t Always Get What You Want, but if you try sometimes, You Get What you Need”

That was my experience this month, in trying to paint a Christmas painting, I poured over and over again, those sparkling colors, and my paintings were awful! I tried different techniques, and nothing looked like the painting that was in my head.

Instead of being disappointed, I think that maybe I learned something about the Holiday season. When we think of this time of year, certain things come to mind. Some of these might be Santa Claus, the Nativity, wreaths, Dreidels’, Christmas trees, and this list could go on for miles! And we all have our own style in color for the holiday season, for me it’s always been “plaid”, with rich reds, greens, blues, and gold. I love this combo for the holiday, so festive and bright, but I could not get it on the canvas no matter what I tried!

Almost daily, I trudged out of my studio, covered in “Christmas Paint” and no painting to show for it. But somehow just being near it and covered in it, gave me joy! It filled me with the spirit of the season, and isn’t that what’s it all about? The spirit of giving, the celebrations with dear friends and family, the extra mile we go to make everything just perfect! But just as my paint knew, you can’t always be perfect, and you don’t always get it right, but it is in the trying, and giving of our selves that we find the most satisfaction at this time of the year, and everyday as well. It is that extra spirit of closeness, and love that is the true essence of the season, no matter your background.

For the holiday season, I wish you magic, hope, love and if you’ve been part of my journey as an artist this year, I am completely grateful for your support. Fill yourselves with that holiday spirit, and treasure that feeling. Find joy in all you do today and always.  Because no matter how big or small your contributions are, somewhere, they can make a large impact on someone else.

I will be scheduling a workshop each month in the New Year, so please subscribe to my newsletter to be notified of an opening.

Happy Holidays!
