About Sea Side Soul Art

lori ferrando slayton

As an artist I use fluid acrylic paint, of different densities, manipulated across a canvas to create my art.  My paintings are abstract and can be interpreted in many ways depending on the viewer.  Because I feel at peace and at home by the sea, I use the colors of the water, sky, and shore in my art.  Thus, the name, SeasideSoul Art.

My art appeals to people who want to participate in the art that’s in their spaces.  It appeals to people that are interested in unique and custom art, rather than stock and retail offerings.

The first time I used this technique, something inside me stirred and it quickly became a passion.  After many hours of practice, I can plan to some extent what will happen when I pour the paint.  I’ve come to know paint brands, additives, densities, and their effect on the outcome.  But what I love about acrylic pouring, is that it is also very spontaneous! No amount of planning can determine the exact outcome.  The painting at that point just happens and I am just a collaborator, but the result is both exciting and beautiful.

My first commission was a challenge but successful.  I’d become pretty adept at getting what was in my head onto the canvas but questioned whether I could get someone else’s vision there.  I take my time to get to know the person I’m creating for and try to complement both their room and personality. I always add a small token of -them- to the painting – that only they will recognize.  There is nothing more rewarding to me than creating a piece of art that brings joy and beauty to my clients.  I also enjoy teaching the technique to others in workshops and private classes.

My hope is that you see my passion in my works and find joy and beauty in my art.

It is as necessary for man to live in beauty rather than ugliness as it is for him to have food for an aching belly, or rest for a weary body.

The thing about Fluid Art is that you never really know what the paint will do, but it’s what I love about the medium!

It’s that moment when you’ve put your paint on the canvas and moved it from side to side and step back and watch the colors interact, and react!
